New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.

“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
