Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
