Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
