The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
