The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
